  The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination, commonly referred to as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) exam, is widely considered one of the toughest and most competitive exams in the world. There are several reasons why this is the case: First and foremost, the exam is incredibly competitive. Each year, hundreds of thousands of candidates take the exam, but only a small fraction of them are successful. In 2020, for example, over 10.5 million candidates applied for the exam, but only around 700 were ultimately selected.
